Information for authors
Both journals publish continuously: articles appear online as soon as they have been accepted and prepared, without issues or volumes.
Launch phase
The founding editorial boards are currently being appointed. Submissions will open once the boards are in place; manuscripts will then be submitted through the online submission system of each journal. Articles accepted during the launch phase are published without an article processing charge. Questions can be sent to contact@vallensis.org.
What we look for
- Validation. External or prospective evaluation, not only benchmark results.
- Reproducibility. Methods described in enough detail to be repeated; code and data available where possible.
- Reporting standards. The appropriate checklist for the study type (e.g. CONSORT-AI, TRIPOD+AI, STARD-AI, PRISMA).
- Statistics. Effect sizes and confidence intervals alongside p-values.
Editorial process
Each manuscript is first checked for completeness and research integrity, and authors receive specific feedback on any items that need attention. An editor then assesses the manuscript and, if it is suitable, sends it for double-blind review by at least two independent experts. All decisions are made by human editors.
From submission to publication
- SubmissionThrough the online submission system of the journal, once submissions are open.
- First decisionOur target is a median of 35 days to first decision. This is a target, not a guarantee.
- RevisionComments from reviewers and editors are summarised in a revision checklist.
- PublicationOpen access under CC BY 4.0. DOIs will be registered via Crossref once registration is in place. An optional graphical abstract can be prepared with the authors' approval.
Article processing charges
Articles accepted during the launch phase are published without charge. After the launch phase, the article processing charge (APC) is CHF 1,900 for JFPAI and CHF 2,000 for JAIDD, payable only after acceptance. There are no submission or page charges.
Authors from low- and lower-middle-income countries (World Bank classification) receive a full waiver; partial waivers are available on request in cases of financial hardship. Waiver decisions are made independently of editorial decisions.
